April 2022: Fountain Hills Cares
Last updated April 15, 2022
Continuing important community conversations
Since the success of the Town's Fountain Hills Cares event in October 2021, Together We Care has continued our part on the planning committee in introducing important conversations that must be started in our community.
This upcoming Fountain Hills Cares topic will focus on dementia and the caregivers , family, friends, neighbors, and all others who make a difference in the lives of those individuals who suffer from Alzheimer's and other dementia-related diseases. TWC has been grateful for the opportunity to plan this event alongside Mayor Ginny Dickey, Town Council members and other Senior Town Staff officials in recent months.
According to the U.S. Census, 38% of Fountain Hills residents are 65 years or older as of 2020. The Alzheimer's Association estimates that 10% of individuals 60+ years have dementia on a national scale, and that 50% of people older than 85 have dementia. The association estimates that over 140,000 Arizona residents are living with dementia, which affects approximately 339,000 family caregivers. These numbers are expected to increase by 43% by 2025 (Alzheimer's Disease Facts & Figures, 2019).

“The question isn’t about whether or not you will run into someone with dementia, but when. If you want to be someone who can respond with respect for what they are going through and act in a way that is safe for both you and them, then this presentation is a must."
- Nydia Montijo
