Biophilic Fountain Hills
TWC is glad to announce our recent partnership with Biophilic Fountain Hills!
What does it mean to be ‘biophilic’?
The term 'biophilic' is the connection between nature and everyday life. Essentially, it means to focus on the human-nature relationship. By emphasizing this connection in our community, things like lifestyle, design and architecture can all be impacted.
What is the purpose of becoming a biophilic town?
The purpose of becoming a partner with the Biophilic Cities Network gives the Town of Fountain Hills the opportunity to lead alongside other cities for a greener and healthier future for all residents that reside in urban areas. This partnership would solidify Fountain Hills' commitment to the nature within and around our community, and "would set the intention to further this commitment into the future".
What would this mean for our community?
There are many different efforts that coordinate with the Biophilic Cities Network that can benefit our community. Many community efforts have already been devoted to the human-nature connection, including the establishment of trail systems, recreation & parks, the community garden, Dark Sky Community & Playful City USA designations, and continued appreciation expressed by Fountain Hills residents.
Other efforts include establishing urban trail systems, developing more tree canopy coverage, outdoor recreational opportunities that are more equitable, and even offering environmental educational courses to community members!

Our part.
How does this relate to TWC's mission?
With our own mission in mind, to use our own privilege to show that Black community members that they are seen, supported and valued in the same way as any other, we aim to help make efforts towards this project more accessible and equitable to all residents.
Activities & Events
As a partner of the Biophilic Fountain Hills (BFH) project, TWC co-founder Rory Wilson will be joining Jeny Davis, the leader of the BFH at the River of Time's re-opening on Saturday, March 26th!
BFH will be attending the L. Alan Cruikshank River of Time Museum & Exploration Center’s grand re-opening from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. We will be handing out some BFH lit, stickers and more, and will be there to answer any questions that you may have regarding the project!
The event is free to the public and will include crafts, hands-on exploration activities, a scavenger hunt, prizes and lessons on Arizona’s native plants and Indigenous animals. Visitors can expect to not only experience an amazing transformation of the interior, but can look forward to exploring diverse areas of the Lower Verde River Valley through field trip experiences into the surrounding areas.
“Our mission is to engage, entertain, educate and inspire people across the state about the importance of the Lower Verde River Valley through ever-changing, relevant topics and experiences. While the last couple of years have been trying, we know the reopening will provide visitors an eye-opening view into the region by using natural and social sciences to not only preserve and interpret the past, but to understand the present and promote future sustainability.” - Cherie Koss, Executive Director
The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for
seniors 65+ and $7 for children six to 18, as well as veterans and health care workers. Members, Fountain Hills students with ID and children under five are admitted free. The museum is located at 12901 N. La Montana Blvd., Fountain Hills, 85268, (480) 837-2612. For more information, visit https://www.riveroftime.museum/.
